Overnight oats are a foolproof way to get a punch of both macro- and micronutrients like protein, fiber, vitamin E, and flavonoids. Plus, you can easily make them taste like a dessert while keeping them clean and guilt-free. Easy to make, easy to go down. Simple!
You can customize your oats however you want: you can chose from different milks (I have been using flax milk lately), different nuts like almonds and walnuts, you can mix in some fruit or some syrup…..the possibilities are endless. I like putting a dollop of greek yogurt sometimes for an extra probiotic boost.
I’m sharing one of my favorite ways to make overnight oats. I like making mine as nutrient-dense as possible since my stomach can’t handle a ton of volume, so I love ingredients that are either chopped or ground that can easily be mixed in.
Check out the recipe below!
Prep Time: 5 min
Cook Time: N/A
Cinnamon Date Overnight Oats
INGREDIENTS
½ cup quick-cooking or unflavored instant oats
½ cup oat milk or other plant-based milk
1 teaspoon chia seeds
1 tablespoon maple syrup
2 chopped dates
Cinnamon to taste
Toppings:
½ sliced banana
1 tablespoon chopped nuts of choice (I prefer walnuts, almonds, or pecans)
blueberries
chia seeds to taste
Bonus: if you have a sweet tooth, you can add some cacao nibs to that chocolate fix and some extra antioxidants
DIRECTIONS
1. In a small jar, combine the oats, milk, chia seeds, dates, cinnamon, and maple syrup.
2. Cover the glass container with a lid or plastic wrap. Let refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. Toppings can be added the night before or immediately before serving.
3. Uncover and thin with a little more milk, if desired. Stir + enjoy!
By soaking the oats overnight, you make them easier to digest, allowing your body to absorb more nutrients. Plus, the fiber in oats acts as a prebiotic, fueling the growth of healthy probiotics in your gut.
Making overnight oats part of my daily routine has made mornings easier and my gut happier. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
As always, happy healing :)
